Rainy Days at Home
Song: Telephones - Vacations
Rainy days are very dear to me. There’s just something comforting about staying in while it rains outside.
To me, those days give me the time and space to slow down, rest, reflect on myself, and take care of my mind a little more.
As a child, I saw rainy weather very differently. I used to think it was dangerous, and I was afraid something like a tornado would come. It’s funny to me how something that once scared me is now something I find so comforting.
Anyways, here are a few things I like to do on rainy days.
I usually put on music - not with headphones, but from my phone, so the music and the sound of the rain can blend together. Then I light a candle, and you won’t guess what I do next - I write in my diary. The rain always calms me down, and the cozy atmosphere makes it easier for me to slow down. Over the past year, I haven’t done this as often as I used to, but I loved opening my Pinterest board with saved journal prompts, picking a question, and writing.
I also love sleeping when it rains. I open my window just a little so I can hear the sound, wrap myself in a blanket, and fall asleep. There is something very calming about it that I can’t really explain.
When I felt off, I cleaned my room.
I’ve always been a very clean and organized person, so my room is usually already clean. Every day I vacuum, every day I wipe the dust, and my bed is always made.
Still, on days like that, I would open my desk and just start clearing things I no longer needed - old notebooks, random papers, and little things I had kept because I thought I might need them someday.
For me, cleaning feels like a form of release. I believe that objects carry both memories and energy, and sometimes they simply no longer have a place in our lives. That's why I prefer to let them go and make space for new things.
As I let them go, I feel lighter too.
With love,
Chrissy
